Well, HELLO. Ever since the end of The Mandalorian‘s season two finale, we’ve known two things about The Book of Boba Fett: that it exists, and that it would premiere in December 2021. As of this morning, we know a tiny bit more—Boba Fett arrives on Disney+ on December 29th, just squeaking in to this year.
Disney announced the premiere date with a poster and a new Twitter account, @BobaFett, which is much funnier than they probably intended. We’re going to tweet at Boba all the time now. Hey @BobaFett, who should I be for Halloween? @BobaFett, what are you having for dinner? @BobaFett what does the inside of a sarlacc smell like?
His story is only beginning. #TheBookOfBobaFett, an all-new Original Series, starts streaming December 29 on @DisneyPlus. pic.twitter.com/D3W26zSN6c

The poster is neat but is nothing we haven’t seen before; it’s the same as the end-credits scene that teased the show’s existence. But no one is complaining! It’s only three months until Boba Fett!
The Book of Boba Fett stars Temuera Morrison as the beloved bounty hunter, and Ming-Na Wen will return as Fennec Shand. The series is executive produced by Mandalorian creator John Favreau, Star Wars TV mastermind Dave Filoni, and Robert Rodriguez, but we know almost nothing else about it—not who will direct, or who else will star.
It’s fine, though. It’s about Boba Fett. We’re good.
It’s funny how this short scene of Fennec Shand and Boba Fett taking over the palace makes Luke’s elaborate rescue plan look so dang silly. Just walk in there, kill the guards and the guy in charge, and rescue Han, Luke. Simple as that.
In all fairness this is after Jabba the Hutt bit the big one – it’s far from impossible the palace’s defences (or, perhaps more likely, the palace’s defenders) aren’t quite what they used to be.
Oh yeah, they’ve got like half a dozen fewer out-of-breath pig guards and drunken lizard men to contend with. A real Fort Knox Jabba had there.
@1 that approach also goes against the whole message of Return of the Jedi (and arguably Star Wars). When the Jedi become soldiers, bad things happen. They are peace keepers who should fight to defend themselves but never start the fight. It is why Luke would turn to the darkside if he strikes down the Emperor.
Throughout the Jabba the Hutt sequence in Jedi, Luke tries to bargain. Only when he faces death does Luke attack.
It is the same reasons why the other end of Mando season 2 doesn’t work for me. It might look cool but it is totally out of character.

The point is Luke didn’t have to have this elaborate, bizarro rescue plan. He could’ve had a meeting with Jabba and when the meeting went bad, as it did, he could’ve used his lightsaber and not someone’s blaster to lamely try to kill the baddies at the last second (as he did later on the barge anyway). And a squad of Rebel troops would’ve helped, too, you know. Simple is better.
Likewise, Return of the Jedi might look cool but it is one sloppily written movie.
Come to think of it, they didn’t even need to kill anyone. Just march in there, stun everyone, rescue Han.
